Students Entry Standards


Admission Criteria

Our admission criteria mentioned below are designed to ensure that students are well prepared to succeed at Scientific College of Design (SCD).


General Foundation Program (GFP)

English is the medium of instruction at SCD and applicants must demonstrate their proficiency in the language through a placement test (English, computing and math).

  • Students should hold a certificate in General Education Diploma or an equivalent Secondary School Certificate.
  • Students who do not meet the set proficiency level at the Placement Test are supposed to take the GFP.
  • Students with an IELTS Band 5 or TOEFL 500 or Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English or a minimum score of 50/100 on the Michigan Test and are exempted from the Placement Test.
  • Students with ICDL certificate or IC3 certificate or Cambridge IT Test are exempted from taking placement tests in Computing.
  • Students who have successfully completed the GFP in other Higher Education Institutions are exempted from the Placement Test.


Architecture Program

  • Students opting to take Architecture need to have a science background in their secondary school.
  • Students need to submit a portfolio of their work which will be internally assessed by a committee.
  • To proceed in their major, Architecture student should score a grade C in Design Studio I & Design Studio II courses in their Design Foundation Program.



  • Minimum Grade of a C in Design Studio I and Design Studio II.
  • Student need to own a digital camera SLR 35 mm.



  • Minimum Grade of a C in Design Studio I and Design Studio II.


Fashion Design Program

  • Students opting Fashion Design major need not take the GFP as the program is delivered in Arabic.


Transfer Students

  • Transfer students should submit their transcripts and course descriptors to Admission and Registration Department for course equivalency.
