Description

This major is designed to prepare students theoretically and practically through a group of courses that serve the field of fashion design and clothes manufacturing. These courses focus on developing student artistic, creative and professional capabilities. In addition, it familiarizes students with the different types of fashion arts, such as fabric, embroidering, designing, manufacturing and keeping up with modern styles. This program encourages students to acquire several design techniques and promotes their advancement to utilize sophisticated technologies in implementing their creative projects.

Program Structure

This program helps students acquire the necessary knowledge of design and tailoring through mastering a group of courses in fashion design and clothes manufacturing, such as fashion history, fashion design, tailoring technology, designing on a model, manual textile and science of beauty, etc. The duration of this program is two and a half years and distributed over five semesters, during which students get familiar with design fundamentals that build student fashion, artistic, and design experiences, in addition to, other theoretical courses that develop student senses of critique and releases their artistic creativity. This program also includes field training in the social institutions that specialize in fashion design and clothes manufacturing. In the fifth and final semester, students plan and implement their graduating projects based off their practical abilities and their individual styles to produce complete and creative works.

Program Objectives

·         To become familiarized with skills of drawing, measurement, and fashion design under scientific principals.

·         To use different tailoring machines, mastering techniques, acquiring skills of cutting and tailoring cloth.

·         To provide students with guidance on development and creativity in the area of fashion design and clothes manufacturing, covering all ages and of different backgrounds.

·         To encourage creativity in developing clothes styles, to implement the different styles with practicality. 

·         To manage factories of fashion, tailoring, and embroidering in addition to all associated arts & techniques.

·         To become familiarized with marketing skills, cost calculations, and managing small business enterprises.

Career Opportunities:

·         To work as a full-time designer who can implement individual and productive enterprises in the area of tailoring and clothes manufacturing under scientific principals.

·         To work as a designer in factories, companies and institutions in the area of tailoring, clothes manufacturing and other arts associated with clothes.

·         To manage centers of tailoring and fashion design either in schools or social and charitable institutions.

·         To manage an enterprise in the area of tailoring and fashion design.

·         To become an Instructor for tailoring in institutions belonging to Ministry of Manpower.
