Description

Graphic Design is the process of visually communicating ideas and information through the use of words and images in printed, environmental and electronic formats.  It is a multifaceted discipline, which encompasses a variety of contents and media.  Duties of the graphic designer include poster design, information graphics, visual identity, packaging, web design, information systems, and animation.

The Scientific College of Design provides a comprehensive education within this ever-expanding discipline and strives to prepare proficient, imaginative, and resourceful graphic designers with critical minds to evaluate their own work, its place in the professional arena and in the larger community which they are meant to serve.   The college offers two tracks for the study of graphic design: printing design and digital design whereby students can choose their area of focus at the end of their junior year.

Program Structure

The Bachelor of Science in Graphic Design is a four year program that embraces a multidisciplinary and comprehensive approach to the investigation of this specialization.  The bachelor degree track is designed for students who seek a more focused and intensive understanding of graphic design.  The college’s unique curriculum interweaves works in studios, theoretical courses, and practical studies to provide students with a solid creative, artistic, and intellectual foundation.

The Design Foundation Program builds a range of analytical, formal, sensory, and technical design experiences along with an emphasis on a thorough understanding of the design process, structure, materials, and techniques.  Sophomores begin to explore theoretical and historical views of design, develop their own drawing skills, and conceptual thinking.

Typography and advanced graphic design projects are the focus of the junior year which develop a strong understanding of how visual communication can effectively express content, message, and information.  During the senior year, the printing design track emphasizes 2D visual communication and advertising design while the digital design track emphasizes 3D animation techniques, motion design, and interactive design.
