Interior Design
Interior design is the process of conceptualizing space and of creating commodious and expressive interior environments which enhance the quality of life and contribute to the health, safety and welfare of society. The practice of interior design integrates the aesthetical and the cultural with the functional and the technical to provide design solutions that respond to human needs.
Interior design gives shape and meaning to the spaces that we inhabit and in so doing enriches our lives. Interior designers advance creative designs for commercial, institutional and residential spaces and respond to the design challenges in the healthcare, entertainment and hospitality industries.
The Bachelor of Science in Interior Design is a four year program that provides a comprehensive and multi-disciplinary exposure to the field of interior design by assimilating theoretical knowledge with creative and practical applications to spatial design. The bachelor degree track is designed for students who seek a focused understanding of and a more professional experience in interior designs and hence, prepares them to pursue active careers and leadership positions in the field.
The program is rooted in the mastery of the design fundamentals, the development of analytical and technical skills, and the advancement of environmental and cultural considerations. Courses in design, visualization, and technology are all firmly established within the design studio, the nucleus for nurturing the student’s creative and intellectual formation.
The first year of study is meant as the Design Foundation Program that provides the basic liberal arts requirements as well as the essential design skills and processes.
The second year introduces design methods, concepts, and techniques as well as initiates courses in design history and theory. Emphasis is placed upon space programming, spatial organization and space component design.
The third year explores design technology and advanced computer graphics in addition to social science courses that sharpen analytical thinking.
The fourth year represents the total synthesis of the knowledge gained in previous years whereby the student is required to present a final studio design project as well as to prepare his/her design portfolio.
